In the spring of 2025, Beth and I started dreaming about our upcoming anniversary in June. Savannah, Georgia felt like the perfect place—a city full of charm, history, and beauty. We pictured ourselves wandering the cobblestone streets, eating good food, and just enjoying time together.

Our first step was to find a place to stay, but the search quickly became discouraging. Hotel rooms in Savannah were running between $200 and $300 per night. Add in the cost of boarding Boo, and the trip suddenly seemed more stressful than exciting.

That’s when we thought of our fifth wheel. Why not camp? We started researching campgrounds and struck gold: a Thousand Trails location right near Savannah, where we could stay for up to two weeks at no charge. Instantly, the hotel problem was solved.

But then reality hit—we didn’t have a truck to tow it.

What started as a simple anniversary trip soon turned into a bigger conversation about travel. Looking at our schedules, we realized we could actually spend a full week in Savannah, not just a weekend. The idea of traveling more often really took root.

Naturally, the hunt for a truck began, but prices were high—just like the hotels. On top of that, we had to think about Boo. Traveling with her in the fifth wheel wasn’t realistic. With the slides closed, she would have no space to move around, and in June heat, no AC. Boarding her every time we wanted to travel didn’t feel right either.

That’s when a new idea began to form. For about the cost of a truck, we could buy a Class C motorhome. The more we thought about it, the more it made sense. A motorhome would give us living space while driving, and Boo could travel with us comfortably with the AC running off the generator. It was the perfect solution.

So, we took the leap. We bought a Class C, stocked it up, made our reservations, and started getting ready for the trip. We even gave our new rig a name: Thor.

What began as a simple anniversary getaway had turned into something much bigger. With Thor, we now had the freedom to travel more often, take longer trips, and always bring Boo along. Our Savannah trip would be the first of many new adventures.
