What started as a simple weekend trip turned into a full week away—thanks to us getting more comfortable with the Thor. Since it was our 30th anniversary, we decided to make the most of it and enjoy some extended time on the road.
The Campground: We booked our stay at Thousand Trails Oaks at South Point, a compact campground tucked just off the interstate. While the sites were fairly close together, we never felt crowded, and everyone respected their space.

Setup was a breeze, especially with the auto-level system—a feature I’ve come to really appreciate. This was also the first trip where we planned to actually spend some real time at the campsite itself. We came prepared for outdoor cooking and carved out at least two days to simply relax at the site, even while keeping up with a bit of work.
It was also our first trip where internet access became an issue. We relied on our hotspots, but after just a couple of days we’d hit the 15GB cap and speeds dropped significantly. That’s something we’d have to sort out for future trips.
The Adventures: Monday, 2 June 2025: Our first stop after set-up was Carolina Cider Company, a cool store in an old service station – foods, cookbooks, pottery, handmade items, jellies… Very nice. Beth said it reminded her of McCracken’s old store in Telford. We bought some honey and peach chutney. We then found the Old Sheldon Church Ruins. Oh wow! BEAUTIFUL and so peaceful. Huge oak trees, getting big like The Angel Tree in Charleston, SC. It had some very old gravesites. Beth said she could pull up a chair and sit there all day – reading a book, of course! We had dinner_________.
On Tuesday, we spent the day in Beaufort, SC. Love this place! It is like a mini-Charleston. We walked the downtown area and did some shopping. I found a UT birdhouse at our first stop, Finders Keepers. We met a geologist there who had a place in Erwin, TN, near Beth’s hometown. We talked with him for quite a while, talking about his job there and the devastation from the hurricane. We had lunch at The Sweet Shoppe and then more shopping in the downtown stores. We then walked the Boardwalk along the river. The town has done great with that! We then ___________
Overall, it was a wonderful week, spent in a location that offered plenty to do without being too far from the campground. It felt like the perfect way to celebrate our anniversary while continuing to learn the ins and outs of RV travel.
